LOCAL MEDIA MONITORING
PROJECT
Calling Community Leaders, Activists,
and Concerned Individuals!
Media Tank is excited to announce plans to begin an educational
media monitoring project that will examine Philadelphia’s
local news media! The idea is to create a space where people who
are concerned with the state of local news media and interested
in working towards creating a more just, accountable, representative
media system can share their ideas and collaborate with others who
also care about media justice.
We are currently recruiting volunteers to help in the planning process.
As a volunteer media monitor, you’ll play an integral role
in the project development, monitoring process, and data collection,
as well as shaping future work to improve local news media accountability.
Click
here for more information on the project and learn how to become
a media monitor! This project
is a part of an ongoing Media Tank program:
LOCAL ISSUES, LOCAL VOICES: A Media Monitoring & Education Project
is focused on the relationship between the community and the media
here in Philadelphia. Through workshops, presentations, and panel
discussions, Media Tank aims to create a space for dialog about
the media landscape in the city and to start critically examining
the local news and its impact on the City.

Media
and Environment Program!
Media Tank is currently
developing resource materials and programming that examine the
connections between media justice and environmental justice as
a strategy for building both movements. A popular education toolkit
with a well-researched resource guide will examine environmental
journalism, media coverage (or lack thereof) of critical environmental
issues, and the often overlooked role media plays in promoting
lifestyles and political agendas that exacerbate current environmental
problems. This information will serve as the basis for a public
events series, (which may include lectures, discussions, film
screenings, issue forums, workshops and trainings) designed to
generate dialogue, global awareness and local action. Media Tank
most recently hosted a film screening and discussion about the
privatization of water.
