Dissecting Local News
A Presentation by Dr. Robin Andersen of Fordham University

Free and Open to the Public!

Local newscasts filled with crime, violence, sensationalized
headlines and fluff stories.  You know: If it bleeds it leads.

Is this your idea of the news you need?  While TV stations are required to serve the public interest, there have been few means to hold them to those obligations. Investigative reporting, in-depth coverage, vibrant discussion, and diversity of viewpoints have steadily declined as corporate owners race for profits.

Media Tank is pleased to present a workshop with Dr. Robin Andersen from Fordham University who will explain how to dissect the local news and how to spot "fake news" segments passing as news (also known as prepackaged video news releases). Click here for Dr. Andersen's bio.

We will also discuss some of the forces that drive decisions about local news content and begin thinking about ways people can organize to improve local news coverage.

For more info on this event call the Media Tank office at 215-563-1100.
