Media Tank's New and Improved Membership Program
It isn’t enough to just believe in media justice, we need to support outlets that are already working towards a more just, representative, and accountable media system. To do this, we wanted to connect you, our members, with independent media sources that are recognized for their dedication to promoting independent voices in the media.

Our hope is to begin creating a community composed of our members and progressive businesses with the goal of acting as responsible consumers and active participants in our community. When supporting local alternatives to the corporate giants we are actively participating in creating change toward a more socially responsible business model.

Listed below is a list of our current membership sponsors. Media Tank members receive exclusive discounts at these socially conscious businesses. Scroll down to learn more about the businesses Media Tank has partnered with to bring you this new, exciting membership package and learn how you can join Media Tank today!

Independent Publishers
New City Community Press is grounded in the belief that writing is an implicit organizing tool that can produce social change. We imagine writing as an act that can project us beyond the parameters of individual selfhood into the body politic. To that end, New City works with communities struggling to gain cultural and political representation, aiding them in recording and distributing their stories to the larger public.

As the leading publisher of dissenting viewpoints, Prometheus Books strives for social reform by challenging popular opinion.

Seven Stories Press believes publishers have a special responsibility to defend free speech and human rights whenever possible.  Each year, in collaboration with Project Censored, we publish the annual compilation of censored new stories and in response to the political crisis triggered by September 11, 2001, Seven Stories has stepped up its publishing on issues regarding U.S. foreign policy, civil liberties, human rights and social justice.

Local Independent Businesses
Joe Coffee Bar is an eclectic, casual coffeehouse with a conscience. Most coffees, teas, cocoa and chocolates are fair-traded, shade-grown and/or organic from small farms and co-operatives which pay farmers fairly for their superb product. Whenever possible, organic local products are used instead of commercially-produced ingredients. Visit Joe for coffee and tea drinks, fine pastries, casual munchies, and many other delicious items.

Robin’s Bookstore believes in democracy, that people must have total access to all information and they are always fighting the Freedom To Read battle, from Tropic of Cancer in the 60's to Child Access laws in the 70's, to Salmon Rushdi in the 80's, to Jock Sturges in the 90's. They offer a great African American section, a really good poetry, literature and children's section, lots of psych and new age, and some of everything else. The store also hosts author events and groups gatherings.

Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture publishes incisive commentary and analysis of TV, film, advertising, music, books, and magazines, while also spotlighting feminist pop culture-makers. Bitch strips away the gloss, the kitsch, and the consumerism that threatens to mask the social importance of feminism, downplay it as just another marketable trend, and dismiss its relevance altogether.

In These Times is dedicated to informing and analyzing popular movements for social, environmental and economic justice; to providing a forum for discussing the politics that shape our lives; and to producing a magazine that is read by the broadest and most diverse audience possible.
