32% of local reporters have acknowledged that they have softened the tone of a news story on behalf of the interests of their news organization.

51% of journalists at national media outlets and 46% from local media believe that journalism is going in the wrong direction, where a significant majority believes that increased bottom line pressure is "seriously hurting" the quality of news coverage.

In order to protect media diversity, companies that own a TV or radio station in a community are banned from owning a daily newspaper in the same market. That rule is now under threat by companies hoping to grow larger.
